At what age your child needs to have first dental appointment?
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that your child needs to have his/her dental appointment for the check up by age 1 or within six months after the first baby tooth erupts. Eruption of the primary teeth begins around 6 months of age.
It is very important to try to keep all primary teeth in place until their permanent successors begin to erupt and they will be lost naturally.
Healthy primary teeth are playing big role in your child speech development, proper chewing process and helping saving space on dental arches for the permanent teeth.
At Aurora Yonge Dental we recommend you to bring your child for the first dental appointment at the age of 1. At this age your child is still too young to be nerves and better adopts to the first dental visit.
Later-for example at the age 2 or 3 he or she might already have some anxiety during the first dental appointment.
At Aurora Yonge Dental we recommend you first to bring you child with you on your routine check up and cleaning appointment to see your teeth checked and cleaned.
That helps you child to adopt to the new environment and at the same tome to see on your example that it does not hurt to get teeth examined and cleaned.
